Established in 1987 by Filipino-Chinese businessmen passionate with the traditional Chinese martial arts, the Wushu Federation Philippines (WFP) is dedicated to promoting and developing wushu in the Philippines as a sport that consistently brings honor to the country. Derived from traditional Chinese martial arts, Wushu includes both performance (taolu) and combat (sanda) disciplines, which have been standardized since 1949 for competition purposes.
WFP has significantly contributed to the popularity and success of wushu in the country. The federation’s aggressive expansion efforts have paid off, with the Philippines becoming a notable hub for wushu talent. Filipino wushu athletes have excelled in international competitions, earning numerous medals and bringing pride to the nation. As a testament to this, WFP has won the 'National Sports Association of the Year' award by the Philippines Sportswriters Association (PSA) twice in 2008 and again in 2016.
The federation’s commitment to grassroots development is evident through its extensive programs aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents nationwide. This approach ensures a continuous influx of skilled athletes who excel in both local and international arenas.
WFP is also dedicated to hosting significant events, with the Philippines set to host the 2027 Wushu World Championships for the first time. This milestone underscores the federation's growing influence and commitment to elevating the sport of wushu on a global stage.
Through continuous efforts in training, competition, and promotion, the Wushu Federation Philippines remains at the forefront of martial arts excellence, fostering a new generation of athletes and enhancing the cultural and sporting landscape of the nation.
